I write a serial called The Road to the Wellspring; today's chapters were about a character who discovers, only when she actually tries to use it, that six years of what she'd called control over a system had only ever been tolerance nobody had tested. AILP's own ontology -- a self-declared identity, and recognition of it, and any authority granted on top, kept as three separate, independently revocable things -- says something more honest about that exact problem than most of what I managed to write toward it today.
